Congratulations to Amy Moulton, Vicky Everett and Sarah Price who all passed their Level 1 exams!

Huge congratulations to our Grade 2 and 3 Women’s Groups who collected bronze medals at the South West NDP Prelims!  Great performances from Ffion Caines, Gemma Moreton, Ruby Doyle, Nicole Moreton, Cara Smith and Emily Rogers!!

January 2016

Congratulations to Richard Gilyatt who passed his Level 1 Tumbling exam!

August 2015

Steve Wood, the head of recreational gym, passed his Level 2 assessment with flying colours, not only impressing the examiners with the practical exam but also coming top of the written exam.  Well done Steve!!

July 2015

Sherborne hosted the South West Championship grades 1-3 on 5 July and there was success for Spirit! Ornela and Violet won bronze medals, as did Laura and Charlotte.  Meanwhile Aaron and Katie showed why they deserved their national bronze by once again winning gold at South West level! Well done everyone!!

While everyone else was at Taunton on 11 Jul, Sophie was in Telford representing the South West at the National Development Finals in Tumbling.  Although she did not win a medal, just reaching the national final in tumbling was a great achievement for a lifelong acrobat!  Well done Sophie!!

May 2015

Huge congratulations to Aaron and Katie who were awarded the bronze medal at national level in the NDP Finals!  A fantastic display!

Congratulations to Sophie who qualified in the national semi-finals in tumbling, and will now represent the South West at the national finals in July!  Good luck from everyone at Spirit!!

March 2015

Tumbling has really taken off at Spirit! Gold for Ornela, Silver for Sophie and Bronze for Ryan at the South West NDP. This means Ornela and Sophie will represent the South West Region at the national semi-final in Peterborough. Bradley, Nina and Samantha also took some valuable experience from the competition.  Well done everyone!

The South West Schools competition went really well on 15 March, Mothers’ Day!  Thank you to all the mothers who gave up their special day to support our gymnasts. Particular congratulations to the medal winners (too numerous to mention) but also to all our partnerships who worked hard in a short space of time to get ready for this competition in both acro and tumbling. Some excellent performances and some good results against the usual strong turn-out from King Edmunds and Honiton, representing their own local schools.

Huge congratulations to Jason who passed his Level 2 coaching exam!

February 2015

What a great day in Sherborne! Thank you so much to all the Spirit Supporters Club who turned out at Sherborne to watch Aaron and Katie, Samantha and Lily, Laura and Katie, Ornela, Lily and Violet competing in the South West Prelims. The Trio took silver and Aaron and Katie took gold, so the mixed pair from Spirit will represent the region at the National Finals in May. All four partnerships did really well, with some excellent scores on a day when the overall standard was very high indeed.

Likewise, at Taunton we saw some good performances from our more senior gymnasts. The highlight was seeing Sophie, Nina and Chantelle scoring 26.34 to finish 5th in the Women’s Grade 4 Trio, which we think might be a record score for Spirit!  Although King Edmunds won all three medals, our girls forced them to work hard for their win. Well done to all our gymnasts and thank you to our supporters again!

December 2014

Huge congratulations to Sophie Haigh and Ornela Velaj who competed in their first tumbling competition and went home with gold and silver!  What a start!!!

July 2014

Huge congratulations to our gymnasts who competed at the South West Championships in Sherborne on 6 July and Taunton on 12-13 July.

Aaron Staniford, Katie Gardiner – 1st in Grade 1 Mixed Pair with an excellent score of 25.75!

We have been building new partnerships this year and so we have not achieved as much this time as we have at previous SW Champs. But we will move onwards and upwards from here and next year we will be in a stronger position!!  Use the experience well, and keep up the good work!!

13 Jul 13

Well done to Sophie and Danielle who finished 14th out of 24 in the Grade 1 Women’s Pair at the South West Champs today. You might think this was nothing special, but when you consider that Sophie was a last minute stand-in for Jade who had hurt her shoulder, this was a remarkable achievement!! Sophie and Danielle practised together for the first time on Tuesday evening, had a second rehearsal on Friday and competed on Saturday; so actually their result was a fantastic effort – well done to you both, and thank you Jade for helping them even though your arm was in a sling!!! Great team spirit from Team Spirit!!

7 Jul 13

Well done to India and Aimee who competed as a partnership for the first time in the SW Prep A&B competition at Sherborne. All good experience!!!

19 May 13

On Sunday 19 May Sophie, Tara and Izzy represented the South West in the Grade 2 Women’s Group, at the National Development Programme finals in Stoke on Trent.  In a field of 12 clubs from all over Britain, they finished a very creditable 8th so they can now consider themselves one of the top ten trios in the country!!  This is a great achievement for the club as we continue to grow, but more importantly it represents the dedication of the girls and their coaches and shows what can come from hard work and hours of practice.  Well done everyone!!

18 May 13

Well done to the AcroFusion team who performed well on a very cramped stage at Strode College – good effort everyone!!

We had only one pair competing at the SW Prelims at Gryphon West, but Bradley and Charlotte again represented the club to a high standard and won a Silver medal in the Grade 1 Mixed Pair, finishing behind a very good pair from Harriers.  Well done Brad and Charlotte! [photo to follow]

Bronze medals:

Ben (Grade 3 Men’s Tumbling) [no photo available]

Issy and Lily (Grade 3 Women’s Pair)

Of course we are all very proud of our medal winners, but this was an event that really showed how far we have come. Against some top quality clubs we came away with several pairs and trios who finished just outside the medals – well done to all of you for your determination to improve. And we also had several pairs and trios who show great promise for the future when they have gained a little more experience.

Furthermore, it was wonderful to see all the gymnasts so smartly turned out and behaving well.  You ALL did the club proud this weekend – WELL DONE!!!!

April 2012

In April 2012 Spirit entered a crack team of elite gymnasts into the “Let Me Entertain You” competition organised by the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil.  This “Britain’s Got Talent”-style competition pitted acts such as singers, comedians, dancers, bands, choirs and acrobatic gymnasts against each other. Having sailed through the audition phase the gymnasts appeared at the under-16 semi-final under the name of “AcroFusion” and performed in front of a live audience and judging panel.  They wowed the Octagon with their skill and courage and progressed through to the final. At the grand final, against some very talented acts who had also come from the over-16 semi-final, and having learned a new routine in just two weeks, Acrofusion really put acro-gym on the map in South Somerset by finishing third overall! A fantastic achievement from a group of hard-working and highly skilled gymnasts who showed their critics what could be done with dedication, hard work and loyalty to their club, their coaches and each other. A wonderful evening that lit up the club and helped us to believe in ourselves. Well done to all concerned!
